Happy 4th Birthday Envirofit!

Envirofit News
November 10th, 2007

We have happily recently celebrated Envirofit International’s 4th birthday! We celebrated with a huge potluck, lots of laughter, speeches, local brews and wine, and a big ol’ birthday cake…

As you can imagine, a start-up global non-profit selling products in developing countries to some of the world’s poorest people… it’s not always a smooth, easy path. Along with the belief that our work can really make a difference, it is our families, friends and colleagues that make this journey such an enjoyable one. Thank you to all that support us and the work we do.

Kind of a “Big Week” for Envirofit International…

That’s the understatement of the year for our company. Last week was crazy. Loony.

Amazing.

First, on Tuesday September 25 we announced a partnership with the independent UK charity Shell Foundation. Working with our technology partner, Colorado State University’s Engines and Energy Conversion Laboratory, we have engaged in a five-year project to design, develop and disseminate 10 million clean cookstoves to some of the world’s poorest people. This project will have a real impact on the global problem of Indoor Air Pollution and we couldn’t be more excited. Click here to read the official press release. The team left for India this week to start work right away.

Next, on Thursday September 26, we were lucky enough to be able to announce another huge project funded by the Lemelson Foundation. This project focuses on our two-stroke retrofit project and represents a significant expansion of our work in the Philippines. Over the next two years we are tasked with retrofitting 1500 bikes, the entire in-city tricycle-taxi fleet in the city of Vigan. Lemelson announced the collaboration at the Clinton Global Initiative Annual Meeting, read the official press release here!

Last but certainly not least, on Tuesday September 25, we celebrated the official launch of our new website, our new logo, our new messaging, and our online donation system… What do you think? As you can tell on some of our pages, we are still very much a work in progress. Recent additions include our photo and video gallery, our core donation page, and updates to our project team page. In the next two weeks we anticipate having our carbon-offset calculator up and running and other great features!

We are interested in ideas on how to make the website work better for you. We want you to be able to access the information you want as easily and effectively as possible. So if you have any suggestions, we are all ears… er, I guess eyes (since it’s email afterall). Please email us with any/all comments!

This news blog will continue to provide weekly project updates on all Envirofit news and events. To easily receive these updates, please subscribe to our email feed or our RSS feed! Also, please subscribe to our quarterly e-newsletter.

Welcome to the brand-new official website of Envirofit International.

Please take some time to stroll around the site. Might I recommend heading over to our challenges and solutions pages, signing up to receive our Envirofit eNewsletter or subscribing to our RSS feed to stay in touch, becoming a member of the Envirofit Facebook community and signing our Wall, or checking out all the other ways you can get involved.

This isn’t going to be your grandma’s typical nonprofit website (or it will be high-tech like your grandma — my grandma sends more emails than I do). We are investigating new ways to keep you up to date and in the know about what’s going down at Envirofit. If you have suggestions, please drop me (Jaime) a line. I may have a lot of hair, but I’m quite friendly once you get to know me.

We would like to thank our friends and colleagues at One Tribe Creative for all their hard work to get this site up and going in a very short time frame. Stay tuned for a ton more exciting features to be added over the next few weeks, including a carbon calculator — giving you the ability to offset your ecological footprint through your support of Envirofit projects!

The day before the official launch…

It was the night before the Envirofit website launch and all through the lab, press release versions were flying back and forth like Monday Night football announcer jokes, cell phones were buzzing, Skypes were Skyping, and everyone was all a-twitter.
