Our Impact
Envirofit partner Colorado State University’s Engines & Energy Conversion Lab (EECL) provides Envirofit with state of the art R & D, engineering and rigorous emissions & durability testing. The EECL’s test facility represents the most advanced cookstove emissions testing laboratory in the world, using Fourier Transform Infrared Spectrometry, emissions analyzers and gravimetric particulate measurements to analyze particulate measurements and gas emissions, including CO, CO2, NOx, and excess O2. All testing is done per United States Environmental Protection Agency (US EPA) approved Title 40 emissions measurement methods. Accelerated durability testing at the EECL has validated a 5-year life (minimum) for the G-3300 combustion chamber. Berkeley Air Monitoring Group provides independent verification of stove benefits to consumer.
Approximately 60,000 Envirofit cookstoves have been sold to customers in India since October 2007. We have sold 7 different stove models during that time, with a price range of Rs. 699 – 2699. In addition, Envirofit cookstoves business supports ~70 full-time Envirofit employees globally, and over 500 local Envirofit distributor/dealers, NGO groups, and suppliers.
We have distilled the benefits of our technology into their essence - money in fuel saved per IAP-affected household and tons of atmospheric CO2 reduced.
Generally speaking:
• 1 stove increases household income by $50-$75 per year
• 1 stove decreases CO2 emissions by 1-1.5 tons per year
• Up to 80% less smoke and harmful gasses
• Up to 60% less biomass fuel (wood, crop waste, etc)
• Up to 40% reduction in cooking cycle time
• High durability - 5 year warranty on combustion chamber, 2 year warranty on all other components. Traditional choolhas are replaced every 6 months-1 year.
Ongoing work by Envirofit and the IAP community will allow us to directly correlate reduced emissions exposure to reduced death rates and increased quality of life - thus also putting a socio-economic valuation on the reduction of pollution. There are significant health benefits that are difficult to quantify due to their long-term, additive effects. We are constantly seeking additional data to improve the quality of our conclusions around monitoring / results and to allow us to responsibly present those benefits.
